Re: Actors in sequence diagram (reply to 'Joba on 2007/3/8')
Hi all,

JUDE/Professional, Community 5.5 Beta have been released!

Toolbar menu of Sequence and Communication Diagrams have been improved Now it has a dropdown button to select Actor, Entity, Boundary and Control in Lifeline.

So now you are able to create an Actor on Sequence Diagram directly

Hello umladdict,

To get an Actor icon in the Structure Tree (The top left pane), right-click on a Project or Package Icon in the tree then select [Create Model] - [Add Actor].
An Actor icon appears in the Structure Tree and you can drag it and drop onto the Sequence Diagram.

On the "Learn UML with JUDE" page, the Actor icon shown in the snapshot of Sequence Diagram was already created on the process to create a UseCase Diagram at "1-7 Draw a UseCase diagram".

A toolbar button would be great to add one to a sequence diagram!
Thank you for your suggestion!
We will consider implementing it in the future. Until then, create Actors with the method that I mentioned above.

Thanks.

Hello,
as stated in my reply to 'Joba on 2007/2/26' (the comment with the scrennshots) I cannot find actors or players (as they are called and shown in 'Learn UML with JUDE', https://jude.change-vision.com/jude-web/download/try_uml.html#10 ).
A toolbar button would be great to add one to a sequence diagram!
My work-around is creating an object (2nd button on the tool bar) named :Actor, :Player or :Human -- but it is a simple rectangle and does not look as nice as shown in the screenshot or in the 'Learn UML..'-page

Unfortunately I cannot find any actors in the tree as shown in those nice images. There are none -- none in new projects (just started with New), none in existing projects with imported java source and already drawn class diagramm. I tried it both with the Jude community edition version 3.1.1 and 3.2.1. -- in vain. How can I get actors? Please help!

Thank you Anon for your post.

Yes, you can add an actor to Sequence Diagrams.

1. Select an actor you want to add to Sequence Diagram in the Structure Tree. (The top left pane)

2. Drag it and Drop onto the Sequence Diagram.

I've been trying, but I can't figure out how to add an actor object/icon to a sequence diagram. For instance, if I want to show that the actor (user) interacts with an apps UI, I like to show it something like this:

+------------+
| class A |
0 UI method() +------------+
+ -------------------->|
/\ |
|

Is this possible?
