JUDE/Professional 5.3 Beta has been released!
I would like to introduce new functions of JUDE/Professional 5.3 Beta

[Edit function of JUDE API]

JUDE has been provided the reference function of JUDE API.
And now, you can edit class diagrams, usecase diagrams, ER diagrams and Mind Maps by using edit function of JUDE API since JUDE/Professional 5.3 Beta.

You can find detailed information about JUDE API in the JUDE install folder\api\doc\index.html.

As a sample program of JUDE API, DB Reverse Tool is included in it. Let's try!

DB Reverse Tool is included as a sample application of JUDE API in the JUDE install folder. This application employs the edit function of JUDE API for ER diagrams.

You can import table definitions of your DB system into JUDE ER models, then create ER diagrams in JUDE/Professional 5.3 Beta.

We have been developing JUDE/Professional 5.1 and JUDE/Community5.1 for these few months, and finally the beta versions have been released on August 31, 2007.

What's new in JUDE/Professional 5.1 Beta?

- CRUD
- Convert from Flow elements to UseCases, from Lanes to Actors
- Gradation and shadow
- Extended search function
- and more!

What's CRUD?

As a new function, ER diagram has been added since JUDE/Professional 3.2. Then, our next step is CRUD. CRUD stands for Create, Read, Update and Delete. It can be used to analyze entities and functions in the project.

ER diagrams (Entities) can be set to the upper side as models, and UseCase Diagram, Activity Diagram and Flowchart can be set to the left side as functions.

We hope it will help you to analyze your project. If you have any suggestions regarding CRUD, we will be happy to hear it.

As common function of JUDE/Professional and JUDE/Community,
Gradation and Shadow are added on diagrams.

If you set background colors for view elements and diagrams, then set gradation and shadow, your diagrams looks a bid different.

Gradation and shadow can be set in System Properties.

Usability of Class Diagram is also improved. The following functions are added:
- Copy & paste attributes and operations
- Add attribute and operation above by Shift + Enter

Do you need ER diagrams for your development?
JUDE has started to support Entity relationship diagrams in JUDE/Professional 3.2.

As you can see the image of ER diagram, it's very clear and easy to draw diagrams.

I would like to introduce you some excellent features of ER diagrams in JUDE.

As basic functions, it supports IDEF1X and IE notations and can be displayed with logical and physical name. Export SQL function is available at [Tool] - [ER Diagram] - [Export SQL] in the main menu.

Display level can be set by the Entity popup menu.
(Entity, Primary Key and Attribute levels)

Also, visibilities of each element in attributes such as data types, lengths, default values, foreign key sign and null option, can be set by the Entity popup menu.

Entity categories (resource, event and summary) can be specified in the Entity property view. If you set the default value of each category in the system properties (Go to [Tool] - [System Properties] -[ER Diagram] in the main menu), you can easily categorize them.

To add primary keys and attributes in entities, try shortcut keys.
After selecting an entity on the ER diagram, press Ctrl + K to add primary keys and press Ctrl + F to add attributes. Also, press enter when continually adding primary keys and attributes.

In the future version, we are planning to convert ER diagrams to Mind Map and UML diagrams.

Composite Structure Diagram has been added in JUDE/Professional 3.1.

Finally, we have started supporting Import Java 5.0 (Generics have not been supported yet and will be imported as normal classes). Generics will be supported in the near feature.

Now, JUDE provides API for Class and UseCase diagrams and Mind Map. Collaboration function is also available with JUDE/Server3.1.

AJAX World Conference & Expo was held in Santa Clara, California
on October 3 and 4.

There were over 70 sessions regarding Ajax and Web 2.0. Developers,
researchers and investors were gathering from all over the world.

I attended interesting sessions such as Keynote by
Jesse James Garrett who named "Ajax" (Asynchronous JavaScript + XML),
"Designing for Ajax" by Bill Scott at Yahoo! and so on.

In several sessions, I have heard about user communities (myspace, YouTube, etc.)
were very active in the world. Definitely, they are changing the
world of the Web! According to the venture capitalist's view, "mixi"
(Japanese user community) is also gaining the public attention.

Some companies (Laszlo Systems, Nexaweb, JackBe, etc.) made
presentations and showed demos of Ajax applications. These companies
will help us to speed up our development by providing Ajax platforms and services.

During the conference, I have talked with over 40 people from all over
the world (UK, China, India, Singapore, Korea, Japan and across the United States).
It was a pleasure to meet a devoted JUDE fan from Singapore.
